Clean It Up

First things first: make sure your sled is squeaky clean! Use a soft sponge and a gentle, foaming cleanser to wash your SNOWDOG from top to bottom, making sure to remove any traces of dirt and debris. When you are finished, rinse your sled with plain water and dry it with a towel.

Protect the Fuel System

Any gasoline left in your SNOWDOG can degrade over the summer and cause damage to the fuel system. There are two ways to prevent this: you can either drain the fuel system completely, or add a fuel stabilizer. If you decide to use a fuel stabilizer, remember to run the engine for a few minutes so the formula can be dispersed throughout the system.

Change the Oil

It’s always best practice to change the oil in your SNOWDOG before setting it aside for the summer. This will remove any contaminants that may be present in the oil tank, which could result in corrosion while your snowmobile sits in storage.

Grease the Joints

Lubricating the chassis of your SNOWDOG will also go a long way toward preventing corrosion. While you’re at it, check the suspension for wear and tear, and address any repair needs.

Store Your Sled Properly

Once you have completed all these important maintenance tasks, your SNOWDOG will be ready to wait out the summer! So, where are you going to store it? Your best bet is to store your sled in a dry, enclosed space, where it will be protected from the elements. You can further reduce wear and tear by placing your snowmobile up on blocks.

No matter where you store your SNOWDOG, it’s a good idea to use a breathable cover. This will protect your sled from dust and moisture, and it can also serve as a deterrent against theft.
